I was born in India, in the Punjab. My family moved to England and that is where I grew up and received my education. I graduated in 1988 with a B. Ed. Hons in Education. I taught in England for 3 years, saved my pennies and decided to travel. This was a dream …..I actually travelled in Asia for 6 years! It was amazing to experience and be a part of so many different cultures and traditions.
I travelled to remote places like Irian Jaya, Sulawasi, Komodo, Pualau Banjak, Ternate and Sarawak to name a few places, where there were no roads, running water or electricity !I lived with the local people in their huts in Irian Jaya on top of cloud topped mountains. It was hard to think that we have people on the earth who actually have very little material “stuff”. They were very resourceful and took care of their environment as that is where they received all their sustenance. I learnt about simplicity and the abundance it provides.
While travelling I always had my meditation practice and my faith. I was brought up in the Sikh religion and although I am not a practicing sikh I relate and meditate upon the words, sounds and mantras that are a part of who I am. I am a spiritual being for sure and I believe that we all have a sacred shaped space inside of us…..just that some of us have not discovered it yet. Once we remove all the extra stuff crowding our breath and we create the space, the calm, the stillness we then discover the entrance to this sacred space within.
The seed of yoga for me was planted on a trip to India. I was introduced to yoga by my aunt who was at that time practicing with some friends. I simply joined them and observed the class. The style was very different to what we do in the West.
It was while working in Singapore that I began to practice yoga. This is also where I first received my Reiki experience. However it was not until I moved to Miami in 2002 that I took up yoga again developing a deeper Sadhana practice and in 2005 I took the teacher training with Suzzane Albertson which trained me to teach yoga to children.
In January 2007 I continued to deepen my calling and took the Synergy Teacher Training with Gaia Bhudhai, which trained me to teach yoga to adults. I am registered with Yoga Alliance.
I believe that yoga is what I was meant to do! I feel more myself when I am teaching, sharing the concept of yoga and guiding and connecting my students to their own breath and ultimately to their true essence.
I became a Reiki Master in 2007 and have enjoyed sharing this beautiful healing energy with family and friends.
